Recycling at The Cope: WEEE and Battery Disposal Information

At The Cope, we are dedicated to contributing to a more sustainable economy. We offer free recycling services for all appliances and batteries at our stores. See below for details on eligible items and how you can participate.


How Do I Recycle at The Cope?

You can return your old appliances or batteries at The Cope Builders Providers in Meenmore, Dungloe. Smaller items such as appliances and batteries can also be returned to our Hardware Store or Hubtec store, located on Main St., Dungloe.

  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE): We accept WEEE free of charge on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis (e.g., returning a kettle for a new kettle). Additionally, waste batteries, including rechargeable ones, are accepted free of charge. There is no requirement to make a purchase when returning old batteries.

  • Local Authority Recycling: Local authorities are also required to accept household WEEE and small batteries at their recycling facilities free of charge.

Please ensure all WEEE and waste batteries are recycled properly and are not disposed of in household wheelie bins. Always remember to recycle your old electrical items and batteries responsibly!


What Can I Recycle?

You can recycle a variety of old appliances, including:

  • Large kitchen appliances: Washing machines, refrigerators, etc.
  • Smaller domestic appliances: TVs, laptops, kettles, toasters, blenders, domestic heaters, and more.

Can I Recycle Batteries?

Yes! Our stores have battery recycling bins available. We accept a range of batteries, including D, C, AAA, AA, and flat batteries. Please note that we are unable to accept industrial batteries due to specific disposal requirements.


Can We Collect Your Appliance?

Yes! If you are having a new home appliance delivered, we can collect your old one for recycling. To ensure smooth collection:

  • The old appliance must be disconnected, clean, and ready for collection when the driver arrives.
  • We can only collect appliances if your location is within our delivery area.

Will My Product Be Disposed of Properly?

We ensure that your old product is disposed of responsibly to minimize harm to the environment and conserve natural resources. WEEE Ireland arranges collection from our premises. For more information, visit WEEE Ireland.

  • Crossed-Out Wheeled Bin Symbol: All EEE sold by The Cope is marked with the appropriate crossed-out wheeled bin symbol, as required by law.

Shopping Online

Orders

Once you place an order, we’ll send you an order confirmation email. A further email will be sent when your order has been dispatched.

All products are subject to availability. If an item is unavailable, delayed or there is an issue with your order, we’ll try to contact you. We won’t substitute another product without your permission.

Yes. If your order has not yet been dispatched, you can contact our online team or use our online withdrawal process.

If the order has already been dispatched, it will need to be returned after delivery in line with our returns policy.

Getting Your Order

Delivery

Standard delivery in Ireland is €5.95. Heavy goods are charged at €15.

We currently offer free delivery within Ireland on eligible orders over €85. Some exclusions can apply, including certain promotions, sale events and selected products.

Orders placed before 2pm are usually dispatched promptly and are generally delivered within 1–2 working days in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Deliveries can take longer during busy periods, national holidays and major sale events.

DPD is our primary courier for Ireland and Northern Ireland. We may also use An Post depending on the product or destination.

Yes. UK delivery is currently available via An Post. Standard delivery is €15, while heavy goods are €25.

We currently do not offer general shipping to Europe or the rest of the world.

Yes. Once your order has been dispatched, you’ll receive an email with your tracking information where tracking is available.

Collect In Store

Click & Collect

Yes. Select the in-store collection option when completing your online order.

Online orders are collected from our Menswear department on the ground floor of The Cope Department Store, Main Street, Dungloe.

Orders are normally ready approximately 24 hours after being placed. Collection is available between 11am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

Please bring your order confirmation email and photographic identification, such as a driving licence or passport.

Returns & Refunds

Returns

For most online purchases, you have 14 days from receiving the goods to tell us that you wish to withdraw from the purchase. You then have a further 14 days to return the goods.

No. For ordinary change-of-mind returns, customers are responsible for arranging and paying the return postage or courier cost.

This does not apply where an item is confirmed as faulty, damaged, misdescribed or incorrect.

Yes. Online purchases can be brought to one of our store till points with the completed returns form.

The item will then be forwarded to our central web team for inspection and refund processing. Online refunds are normally returned to the original payment method rather than issued as cash at the till.

Items should be unused and unworn beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect them, with tags attached and original packaging where reasonably possible.

Yes, subject to availability. Items being exchanged should be unused and unworn with tags attached and original packaging where reasonably possible.

If you want a completely different product, please place a new order and return the unwanted item for a refund.

Refunds are issued to your original payment method. Once processed by us, they generally appear in your account within 5–7 working days, depending on your bank or payment provider.

If it has been more than 10 working days since we confirmed the refund was processed, please contact our online team.

Contact us as soon as possible at onlinesales@thecope.ie with your order number and details of the issue.

Depending on the circumstances, your legal remedies may include repair, replacement, a price reduction or refund. Where an item is confirmed as faulty or incorrect, The Cope will cover the reasonable cost of returning it.

Certain legally exempt products may not qualify for a change-of-mind return. Examples can include personalised products, goods that deteriorate rapidly, and some sealed hygiene or personal-care goods once the seal has been broken.

These exclusions do not remove your statutory rights where an item is faulty, damaged, misdescribed or otherwise does not conform to your contract.

Payments & Promotions

Yes. Online prices are displayed in Euro and include VAT. If your card uses another currency, your bank or payment provider determines the exchange rate.

Promotional discount codes generally cannot be combined with another promotion or discount unless specifically stated otherwise.

Not always. Gift cards, sale items, selected products and other exclusions may be excluded from promotional discounts.

Promotional discounts are generally valid only during the stated promotional period and cannot normally be applied retrospectively.

Giving The Cope

Gift Cards

Yes. We offer physical in-store gift cards as well as online e-gift cards.

Physical Cope in-store gift cards are for use in our retail stores. For purchases on thecope.ie, please choose an online e-gift card.

WEEE

Electrical & Battery Recycling

Yes. WEEE can be returned free of charge on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis when purchasing an equivalent new product.

Electrical recycling is available through The Cope Builders Providers, while smaller electrical items can also be returned through Home & Hardware or Hubtec in Dungloe.

Yes. Household batteries can be returned free of charge and you do not need to make a purchase to use the battery recycling service.

We cannot accept industrial batteries.

Yes, where your location is within our delivery area. The old appliance must be disconnected, clean and ready for collection when our driver arrives.

The Cope processes personal data in accordance with GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018. Personal information is collected only for legitimate purposes and appropriate security measures are used to protect it.
